That Honda “is in talks to supply vehicles for Alphabet Inc’s Waymo to test self-driving technology” is all over the news today. Meanwhile, a more momentous development happened away from the limelight: More strength was gathered by a group of automakers that joined together to keep Google out of the inner sanctums of their cars.
Today, Japanese carmaker Suzuki joined Automotive Grade Linux as a Platinum member, the Linux Foundation told me. Automotive Grade Linux (AGL) is an open source project to develop a Linux-based, open platform as a common operating system for the connected car. AGL is an operating system that will run “everything in the car that has a processor,” said Dan Cauchy, Executive Director of the AGL project.
