The Linux Foundation, through its open-source project Automotive Grade Linux (AGL),  released a fully Linux-compatible software stack for Connected Cars & Infotainment sometime back. Based on Tizen IVI, AGL adds an intuitive UI/UX and various applications written in HTML5 and JavaScript with a facility to support multiple hardware architectures. There is no doubt about the popularity of Linux and what it can do with embedded systems. As a matter of fact, Linux powers 95% of the supercomputers available including all the 44 fastest. The question that remain unanswered is that how Linux has gained popularity within the automotive space? How can the benefits of Linux be reaped by the automakers? How will the ‘open-source’ trend compete with the proprietary solutions given by tech-titans like QNX, Microsoft, Apple.
