SUMMARY:COVESA All Member Meeting
DESCRIPTION:April 16-18\, 2024 | Gothenburg\, Sweden \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAGL Executive Director Dan Cauchy and Walt Miner\, Senior Director of Community will give a presentation on the areas in which AGL and COVESA are currently collaborating today and possibilities for closer engagement in the future. AGL will also be doing demos during the COVESA Member Showcase & Reception the evening of April 17th. \n\n\n\nWant to schedule time to meet with AGL during the event? Reach out to pr@automotivelinux.org. \n\n\n\nUsing the Automotive Grade Linux UCB as a Vehicle for COVESA Development \n\n\n\nWednesday\, April 17th at 3:00 pm | Speakers: Dan Cauchy and Walt Miner\, AGL \n\n\n\nThe Automotive Grade Linux (AGL) Unified Code Base (UCB) is an open-source platform for Software Defined Vehicles (SDV) addressing multiple cockpit software functions including infotainment\, instrument cluster and heads-up display. First released in 2016\, the UCB recently made its seventeenth release\, code named Quirky Quillback\, which added or enhanced support for key technologies such as SDV\, VirtIO\, RISC-V architecture\, AWS Graviton cloud-native support and new Apps based on the Flutter UI framework. \n\n\n\nThe UCB is a mature and well supported platform with a code-first and upstream-first approach. AGL collaborates with best in class open source projects to push automotive use cases into projects when necessary and combine them to provide an automotive-specific distribution with unparalleled flexibility. \n\n\n\nIn this talk\, Dan and Walt will describe the areas in which AGL and COVESA are currently collaborating. For example\, the UCB already includes some COVESA-based components\, including VSS via the KUKSA.val project and the GENIVI DLT. There are also a number of current and future efforts that overlap such as SDV\, EV Charging and AOSP which are of keen interest to joint members of both AGL and COVESA. We will discuss the possibilities for closer engagement between AGL and COVESA in some of these work groups.

SUMMARY:AGL Member Webinar: AGL@SEA: a Marine Grade Linux
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\nPRESENTER: Fulup Le Foll\, IoT.bzh \n\n\n\nAs today\, AGL has mostly been sponsored by the Automotive Industry. Nevertheless\, many of the AGL requirements are not unique to this industry. Reusing AGL within non-automotive projects would save money\, improve time to market and extend the community of adopters. To be active in 15 years from now\, AGL should handle not only cars\, but also robots\, boats\, trains…no project can survive in the jungle of open-source without a global adoption. \n\n\n\nThe Marine Grade Linux project by IoT.bzh provides a customized flavor of AGL that addresses marine specific requirements. For signaling\, NMEA2000\, CanOpen\, Ethercat and Modbus were added. Cloud connectivity is designed to handle random connectivity with a balance of 4/5G and satellite data link. Some core marine services as nautical charts\, safe routing\, or radar are still under development and should be added in the near future. Last but not least\, a 30 years old ship is pretty common and maintenance/update on 15 years is required. \n\n\n\nThis presentation exposes the outcome of the three marine projects IoT.bzh is currently developing for this industry. It starts exposing gaps in business models\, then exposes some of the technical specificities (signaling\, SOTA\, LTS\, …). Finally it introduces redpesk@sea the ready-to-use “Marine Grade Linux” version that IoT.bzh will propose as Christmas gift to the maritime open-source community. \n\n\n\n\nWATCH ON-DEMAND

SUMMARY:Autonomous Vehicle Test & Development
DESCRIPTION:Automotive Grade Linux: enabling industry collaboration through open-source software\n\n\n\nPresentation by Dan Cauchy\, Executive Director of AGL \n\n\n\nThe Automotive Grade Linux (AGL) community consists of more than 150 companies across the automotive and tech industries who are working together to develop an open-source software platform for all in-vehicle applications from infotainment to autonomous driving. Sharing a single software platform across the industry decreases development times so OEMs and suppliers can focus on rapid innovation and bringing products to market faster. This talk provides an overview of AGL\, production use cases including Toyota and Subaru\, the project roadmap and how to get involved. \n\n\n\n\nLEARN MORE

SUMMARY:AGL Member Webinar: Getting Started with AGL using a Raspberry Pi
DESCRIPTION:In 2016 Automotive Grade Linux was ported to Raspberry Pi and since then this low-cost single board computer has become a preferred getting started platform among the community. Although Raspberry Pi doesn’t match the hardware capabilities of high-end industrial and automotive hardware platforms\, its wide availability and low-cost makes it a great choice for rapid prototyping and exploring AGL. \n\n\n\nThis presentation will provide guidelines and exact steps for building AGL image for Raspberry Pi. We will explore the past and present of AGL on Raspberry Pi\, including practical experience for supporting Wayland\, PipeWire\, libostree for software over the air updates and various hardware peripherals. \n\n\n\nThe talk is appropriate for beginners. No previous experience with AGL is required. Hopefully\, the presentation will encourage more people to join and contribute to our open source community! \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Webinar: Device Virtualization Architecture in Automotive
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Mizuyama Masashige\, Automotive CTO\, Panasonic. \nThis talk will provide an overview on how device virtualization is the critical key to preserve software assets in automotive systems and even in systems without a hypervisor. He will discuss how the most important elements for the device virtualization include well-defined device abstraction and location transparency and will show the “unified virtual display” technology for complex cockpit systems as the latter example. Mizuyama-san will also touch upon the latest progress of the AGL Virtualization Expert Group\, which is focused on the introduction of VirtIO to the AGL Unified Code Base (UCB) as the standard device virtualization. \n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW

SUMMARY:Embedded World 2020
DESCRIPTION:AGL will have a booth at Embedded World again this year; details to come. \nAGL Community Lead Walt Miner will also be giving a talk: \nWednesday\, Feb. 26\, 16:30 – 17:00\nEmbedded OS IV- Linux II (Session 3.2 11) \nHow Did Automotive Grade Linux Become THE Open Source Community Cars?\nWalt Miner\, The Linux Foundation \nCar companies and their suppliers long ago learned how to take raw steel and turn it into a finished product. When software first entered the car\, it was all closed source\, but at the turn of the twenty-first century the complexity of software in cars exploded. Even so\, OEMs and Tier Ones continued to keep their software proprietary\, so much so that most Tier Ones only reluctantly gave source code to their OEM customers. With consumers now demanding the same app based experience their car that they have on their mobile phones and tablets OEMs have turned to open source software to make up the gap. How did the ultra-competitive world of car manufacturers come to together to embrace Automotive Grade Linux and grow a community where Tier One suppliers\, OEMs\, and hobbyists can come together and build software for your next car? Walt reviews the challenges that were overcome\, where we stand today\, and what needs to be done to continue to grow the open source automotive community.
